Directly from the New Zealand Curriculum (2007, p.10)
Our vision is for young people:
• who will be creative, energetic, and enterprising;
• who will seize the opportunities offered by new knowledge and technologies to secure a sustainable social, cultural, economic, and environmental future for our country;
• who will work to create an Aotearoa New Zealand in which Māori and Pākehā recognise each other as full Treaty partners, and in which all cultures are valued for the contributions they bring;
• who, in their school years, will continue to develop the values, knowledge, and competencies that will enable them to live full and satisfying lives;
• who will be confident, connected, actively involved, and lifelong learners
As staff we have recently discussed what this means for us and have summed it up in a way that relates to our vision. You will see this in places around the school as we believe it must be a living and breathing document for us!
We will:
Seek by always viewing inquiry and curiosity as a constant in life
Strive by thinking about what, why and how we do things regularly
Find by using a variety of teaching strategies
Never give up by creating an environment where children take risks
In 2021, we are looking at the overarching theme of "Whanaungatanga" - this is about learning together with the a focus on the reciprocal nature of learning, student voice and use of the tuakana/teina model of learning.
