Knapdale School is situated in the rural community of Knapdale, approximately 10 kilometres north of Gore, along the eastern side of the Mataura River. The school enjoys outstanding views of the Hokonui Mountain Range and has been an integral part of the Knapdale community for over 140 years. In 2019, the school proudly celebrated its 140th Jubilee.

Knapdale School is a decile 7, co-educational, state school catering for students in Years 1 to 8.

The school buildings have been developed and refurbished over time, providing an excellent learning and working environment with three modern classroom spaces. The school also has a swimming pool, which is available for use by both the school and the wider community, with keys available for purchase.
